Day 1Pampa Linda to Lomas del Huenchupan
We set out from the foot of Tronador (Pampa Linda) with the goal of crossing into Chile. This is the day with the most elevation gain of the expedition, and horses will help carry our loads to Lomas del Huenchupan, a spot with a unique view of Tronador and a bivouac built by the De La Cruz family. From that day on, we will be on Chilean soil.
-
Day 2Lomas del Huenchupan to Termas de La Junta
On our second day of the expedition, with loaded packs, we head to a dreamlike place, "Las Termas de Leti," where the Río Blanco meets the Río Esperanza, creating a spot among trees, ferns, and hot springs. Yes, you read that right!! Natural hot springs in a jungle setting on the banks of a crystal-clear river.

Day 3Our rest day in the oasis of our double crossing of the Andes
-
Day 4From the Hot Springs to Lago Todos los Santos (Packraft)
We hike for about 4 hours to the confluence of the Blanco and Vuriloche rivers. From here begins one of the most challenging days of the expedition: with our boats and packs, we float down the Río Blanco. A few kilometers before the river mouth, we will camp in a unique spot. This is definitely the most adventurous day of the whole expedition, and between paddling and trekking, fun is guaranteed.
-
Day 5Crossing Lago Todos los Santos (Packraft / Boat)
We wake up and break camp. We paddle to the river mouth at the lake, then continue to a small port on the shore where we leave our packrafts. We meet René, who will take us across to his home at the other end of Lago Todos los Santos. He and his partner Yannet welcome us with delicious food and wonderful hospitality. We have dinner and sleep at a local family's home.
-
Day 6Sánchez family home to Peulla and return to Bariloche
We leave Chile, our last day in the land of volcanoes and Valdivian rainforest. We take the boat to Peulla and from there a bus to Puerto Frías (27km), where we go through immigration. We enter Argentina. We sail across Lago Frías to Puerto Blest, then take a catamaran to Puerto Pañuelos, Bariloche.
What to bring
- We will spend 1 night in a hut; the rest will be at camp.
