A true classic: four days of hiking through Bariloche's most iconic mountain huts. On the first day we hike up to Refugio Frey, a place steeped in climbing history that will likely treat us to an epic sunset.
The next day we continue to Refugio San Martín, better known as Jakob after the lake at its feet. This is without a doubt one of the most fun days of the trek, as we leave the forest behind and move into more alpine terrain with incredible views. At Jakob, dinner awaits us, along with its remarkable comfort, for a one-of-a-kind experience.
Very early, we take on the most technical day of the route, from Jakob to Refugio Italia and its Laguna Negra. On this stretch we use ropes and technical gear to cross to the other side of Pico Refugio and continue to the summit of Cerro Navidad. The descent into the Navidad Valley is impressive, narrow and lined with granite walls. We continue until we reach the switchbacks (los caracoles) that drop us at the shore of Laguna Negra.
On our last day we cross from Laguna Negra to Refugio López. It's another day in alpine terrain, but this time we get views of the lakes and the city of Bariloche again. It's a truly unique way to discover the mountains of Bariloche and the history of their huts in just four days.
