Volcán Lanín is one of the most iconic mountains in Patagonia. It's the kind of mountain that makes you want to climb it the moment you see it. It can be seen from 200 km away, and it's hard to mistake for its volcanic neighbors Villarrica (still active today), Osorno and Llaima. It is an emblematic mountain in the Mapuche worldview. The view from the summit is unmatched: Lakes Huechulafquen, Paimún and Epulafquen, the surrounding mountains, and on a clear day you can even see Monte Tronador. Attempting to climb Volcán Lanín is without a doubt an experience that will stay in the memory of everyone who dares to try it. The expedition offered here is the most conventional format, via the normal route. Be sure to ask about a custom program.

Day 0
Meet the guide team in San Martín de los Andes. Pre-trip advice on lodging and rental gear, plus a gear check. In the afternoon: general preparations.
-
Day 1
Vehicle transfer to Paso Tromen, at the foot of the north face of Volcán Lanín, where the park ranger station is located and the rangers will check the expedition members' gear. On the first leg, after hiking up for about 5 to 7 hours, we reach one of the mountain huts, located at 2350 m a.s.l. Dinner and overnight at the hut or in tents (depending on availability).
-
Day 2
We start early in the morning (2 am); after a hearty breakfast we begin our summit push. We climb for about 3 hours until we reach the "3,000 m a.s.l. Plateau," where we head toward the Canaleta del Silencio, which draws a direct line up the north face of the volcano and leads us to the summit. By this point in the day, the sun will be lighting up the horizon. The view is unbeatable. Depending on the time of year and mountain conditions, we will use crampons and ice axe from the start of the day or only for a few hours. Reaching the summit (3776 m a.s.l.) is estimated to take 6 to 8 hours. After the celebrations and the obligatory photo session, we begin the descent to the hut area and from there to the base. Transfer back to your lodging in San Martín de los Andes. End of our services. Estimated program. The ascent can be combined with some hikes in the area. Adaptable to your goals!
What to bring
- You will sleep in domes, so you need to bring your own sleeping pad and sleeping bag.

Snacks and extras
We recommend bringing snacks of your choice to supplement your days in the mountains, along with treats you truly enjoy. Eating well is the key to keeping your strength up in the mountains. And to combat loss of appetite at altitude, it's best to have a variety of foods to choose from, from sweet to sour and salty.
