Glacier Trekking - Alerce Glacier Crossing

Why cross a glacier?
To connect two huts, to feel the ice underfoot, to venture into the glaciers of Monte Tronador. This is without a doubt one of the most appealing routes you can do in the mountains of Nahuel Huapi National Park, thanks to the beauty of the setting, the variety of terrain you pass through, its accessibility, and the comforts the huts provide. The traverse goes hut to hut, between Meiling (1.870 m) and Rocca (Paso de las Nubes, 1.430 m), and can be done in either direction.

Of the four total hours it takes to complete the route, one hour is spent on the glacier, with low to moderate difficulty depending on the condition of the snow cover. Here you will see crevasses in the ice which, depending on the time of year, are bypassed along the path chosen by the guide. The rest is a hike over steep scree slopes and a very scenic ridge with spectacular views over the Frías and Alerce glacial valleys.

The other option is to walk on the Castaño Overa glacier and do some climbing in one of its crevasses, where we will get to know the glacier in depth and feel the adrenaline of ice climbing.
