Fernando Martinez

An engineer, cartographer, and mountain guide, Fernando Martínez is a deep connoisseur of Patagonia and the Andes. He is certified by the Argentine Association of Mountain Guides (AAGM), an active member of UIMLA, and a professional member of the American Avalanche Association. He splits his time between El Chaltén and Bariloche, exploring and guiding in some of the most breathtaking landscapes in South America.

From a young age, his passion for exploration led him to discover remote areas in the Central Andes and embark on expeditions in Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. His love for nature, outdoor education, and adventure inspired him to specialize in snow and avalanche management, training with prestigious institutions such as AAGM, AIARE, Alaska Avalanche School (PRO1 Hatcher Pass, AK), and Mountain Safety (Switzerland).

In addition to his work at Backcountry Cooperative, he has been an instructor at ISAGM since 2016, training future trekking and mountain guides. In 2022, he took on the role of Mountain Guide Program Coordinator at the same institution.

From the Patagonian forests to the high-altitude Puna, Fer will guide you through a one-of-a-kind experience in the wildest corners of South America.
